the first nut (almond) has all the flavor
then fades second helpings not as good
another and another looking for the first
and yet being old is pleasant or can be
you have learned what matters or not
what you like and can readily sustain
a dozen almonds before bed a glass of
milk the night noisy in the novel but
quiet here the longing largely stilled
